Asuka Kaneko

Born in Saitama, Japan, based in Kyoto since 2024, I graduated from Tohoku University of Art & Design, Department of Architecture and Environmental Design in 2013. With the main theme of “place where one belongs,” I explore the possibilities of expression of the contemporary landscape, using drawings and unbuilt buildings that have been drawn by architects as clues. while I explore the possibilities of its expression.

It is always the landscape that brings me back. The landscape is what I see in front of me now, an interweaving of the pieces I have seen, and they take me somewhere other than here. Architects in the world design buildings under various constraints, but the drawings and unbuilt buildings by architects seem to depict a landscape that has been freed from the inconvenience of reality (or has achieved freedom in the inconvenience).

How did these architects, who create spaces with the possibility and hope of freedom in the midst of inconvenience, view the landscape? What kind of landscapes did they envision?
I wanted to see the landscape of a world that never happened.
